Have you ever been in a situation where the ending is completely unknown? You can't see even a few minutes into the future. There's no more opportunity to turn aside, you must move foward. It can be frightening and invgiorating at the same time. There's a sense of ... well... this could be a wonderful experience or disaster. Let's see what is waiting on the other side.
Driving to a new market with a new customer base and a car full of products that have had HOURS of thought and labor put into them. Here we go. Let's give it a shot. This is when I experience that "here we go into to the unknown" feeling the strongest.
The photo above was taken on my way to set up as vendor at Lavenderfest at Woodstock Lavender Co. I was looking into the mist, unable to see the rest of the highway. The scene completely captured how it can feel when thinking of a new market or project for our small business. I never know if someone will absolutely connect with our products or if they will walk right by like I'm not present.
The life of an artisan can have high's and low's. While there can be dread and discouragment, there is also excitement and a deep accomplishiment that comes by doing something that you enjoy. What if a leather journal that I've made helps someone process their day? What if this leather purse serves a need and helps someone feel special on an ordinary day? There are so many possiblities.
So, what lies beyond the mist, beyond the unkown? I can't know, but I can continue driving and look for the light on the other side. In the case of this specific artisan market at Woodstock Lavender Co, the light was found. It was in the kind people I got to connect with, the lavender lemonade, the blue skies and an opportunity to chat with a family about milkweed and monarchs.

After this market, I knew that I wouldn't regret time at the lavender farm or chatting with Allison. So, we will be leading an earring workshop at Woodstock Lavender Co on November 5th. This a beginner class that is meant to be a great night to socialize with friends or meet new folks while making beautiful earrings. There is no experience necessary.
